2021 marked the beginning of the pop-punk revival. pop-punk fell out of mainstream favor in the late 2000's/early 2010's as popular music began distancing itself from rock music. around the mid/late 2010's, emo-rap artists such a lil peep, lil uzi vert, trippie redd, xxxtentacion, juicewrld, and others emerged, incorporating many emo and pop-punk tropes into their trap styled hip-hop. as a result, the underground emo-rap movement made a massive impact in the industry, leaving audiences craving for rock music in spite of droves of journalists droning on and on about "the death of rock 'n roll." between a deadly pandemic and unending political violence, the 2020's began with catastrophe on a global scale. in response to a dark future, gen z flocked to bratty, in-your-face, defiant punk rock-inspired artists such as machine gun kelly, yungblud, maggie lindemann, olivia rodrigo, jxdn, lil huddy, kennyhoopla, and others. through rock 'n roll's rebellion, the genre lays bare the fountain of youth.
